Question by JD/2011: Are all 4 wires on a trailer wire harness the same?
SO I am having a hell of a time with my boat trailer and I don’t know why. So I ran all new wires through the trailer (non tilting). Instead of separating the white I used it as a signal connection because I wanted to have continuous connections to the lights themselves, so I used the following configuration:
White to yellow (on drivers side light)
Green to brown (on drivers side light)
Brown to brown (on passenger side light)
Yellow to Green (on Passenger side light)
Then I made sure I used the same connections on the pigtail and put both the brown and green into the butt connector for the brown wire on the pig tail.
When I connect the pigtail to the car and turn on the left turn signal I get no lights on the trailer turning on.
More specifically I have narrowed it down to this: With only the left signal on and the car pigtail not connected to the trailer and using a car specific circuit tester only the left turn signal post lights up.
When I connect the car pigtail to the trailer pigtail all of wires except the ground register hot on the trailer side (not blinking). The weird thing is that on the car side the same thing happens. I reset the ground on the trailer tongue, though my lights ground through the posts I used terminal connectors and made ground wires for the each light, the wires are continuous and yet still no lights.
On my car I have a converter with spliced in connections to the tail lights and a direct line to the car’s positive terminal with a fuse. I grounded the converter to the bottom of the trunk using a self tapped screw.
I am at my wits end and incredibly frustrated, how can something so simple be such a nightmare?
Is it the car side? Any help would be much appreciated.

sounds like a gm product, here goes remember the turn signal and the brake light are one and the same the only difference is the interruption from your turnsignal switch, blink, blink,,these will be your green and yellow wires the brown is for parking lights, black ground and white if I remember right is rev.or backup i mean
