How to reset a GFCI receptacle duplex outlet plug

Do you know how to reset a GFCI receptacle duplex outlet plug? What is a GFCI receptacle duplex outlet plug you ask? GFCI stands for “ground fault circuit interrupter” & it’s a duplex receptacle that has a test button & reset button right in the middle of the duplex receptacle outlet plug. I would explain more but I’ll let “joe” take it from here. “Joe” will show you how to reset a GFCI receptacle duplex outlet plug & “joe” will also give you other important “things” to consider when your duplex receptacle plug (or plugs) are not working.

@oLdSkOoLkisS When you’re working on the gabage disposal, make sure to unplug it first, then when you’re all done, plug it back in……safety first…..always remember that. I don’t want any accidents on my watch lol! Joe :0

@oLdSkOoLkisS There might be something stuck in your garbage disposal thereby preventing it to turn & then tripping the GFI plug. Get your allen wrench set out & find the right wrench & under the disposal you will see where to put the wrench. Turn the wrench & dislodge whatever is preventing the disposal to turn…..you can turn it back & forth to loosen up the disposal “stick”. There’s also a red “reset” button down there. Push this in. Now try the switch again & see what happens. Joe :0

The disposal still shuts off once i flip the switch.I checked the disposal cord/plug and it’s fine…and the 2 receptacles work on my outlet because i tested appliances.

@oLdSkOoLkisS Your garbage disposal cord may have a looose connection or a bad end….Check this out too. A wire connection could be loose on the back side of your switch &/or GFI outlet. Make sure to turn your breaker off when trouble-shooting your tripped GFI plug. Please get back to me to let me know what you find is causing the GFI plug to trip. Joe :0

@oLdSkOoLkisS You must have a short somewhere in the circuit, causing the GFI to trip when you turn the garbage dispoal on. You might have a loose wire nut in the switch box or maybe in the outlet box where the garbage dispoal is plugged into. There might also be something caught in the garbage disposal so when you turn the switch on, it trips the GFI outlet. There’s something going on. Try some of those things to narrow it down. Let me know what you find. Thanks for your question. Joe :0
